>>14046962It's a classic bait and switch, it would be political suicide to approve one of these based on the actual price it's going to cost you, so you fudge the numbers so it's low enough to seem like a good deal, then when the construction has started it's essentially too late to back out (think of the jobs) and you already have a half finished plant so you might as well keep paying to get something for your money, so no matter what the price will end up being it's just going to be pushed trough. By this time the original people involved have already retired to cushy industry jobs so you can't even punish them and doing that would set a bad precedent anyways, afterall when you retire to a cushy industry job it would be bad if others prosecuted you for your decisions.
>>14046741There's good bit of truth to that, literally no one is going to starve in germany even if they doubled food prices, meanwhile there is strong incentive for a capitalistic system to race to the bottom, lowering quality in search for price reductions to beat your competitors. It's suicide for any firm to raise quality because they can't compete on prices but if everyone at once agrees to fix the situation it can be done.
