I don't blame the director and writers though. You'd have to dig the info from obscure ukrainian forums or speak to some of the actual enginners who worked in Prypriat to understand why things happened. It's not as clear cut and dry as the show presents since the people operating the reactors were following the guidelines and no definite rule was broken - many of the flaws in design that led to the accident were not known to anyone except Dollezhal IIRC.
You can read some about it on /Chernobyl, they used to have some good discussion on it after the show ended regarding on many of the inaccuracies portrayed in the show.
