After the volcanic eruption on Martinique in 1902 that killed 29,000 people, Mount Pelee started to grow a volcanic spine from it's crater. It's height grew several feet a day. Slowly but surely it kept going and going and going. At it's apex it reached a height of about 1000 feet tall (~Chrysler building) and had a volume comparable to that of the Great Pyramid. An anachronistic omen to the long dead people of Saint-Pierre. A towering monolith that a few months ago didn't exist. Then suddenly without warning, the whole structure collapsed into a pile of rubble.
