Does this fact mean anything
x^x = a
x*ln(x) = ln(a)
x*ln(x)-x = ln(a)-x
Now d/dx of both sides
ln(x) = -1
The fact that result is impossible, does that have anything to do with the impossibility of algebraically solving the original equation for x?

It comes up a lot. I've used it on /sci/ dozens of times answering random questions.

Also it's the next logical inverse after minus, division, and left & right inverses for ^ i.e. roots and logarithms.
