Assuming you get admitted, talk to your college advisor and to your professors about various possible career paths, not just medicine. Don't get too worked up about competing against your fellow pre-meds. Try to maintain a balance between your assigned work, actually learning the material, and finding joy in life as it occurs.
(I did my undergrad at Johns Hopkins, and you can imagine there were a lot of pre-meds there, and not all of them continued on to medical school.)

Ahhh. This was me 8 years ago. I ditched premed after shadowing doctors and realizing how fucking stupid they are. They don’t innovate ANYTHING, and their entire day revolves around being emotionally supportive for people with health problems. It’s an important job, but it ain’t for me.

I’m a staff scientist at a federal lab now, doing very interesting work with unparalleled stability (average tenure here is 30 years, people stay for life)

That's exactly what I'm apprehensive about. Not innovating, having to appeal to people even if they discard your support/advice, and so on. Like I said above, I originally wanted to go into biomed and research new and cool shit and explore the hidden secrets of life itself (omitting all the hassles and hardships that come with research). I think I'm going to double major but med school limits prospects to a certain degree. I guess I'll just have to keep going and ask more questions.
