Why is memory of places better than memory of numbers, or a new language?

I feel like I could draw thousands of maps of different places. Neighborhoods, stores, friend's houses from when I was a kid.
>What I can't do is remember the names of more than a few streets in my neighborhood. Can barely remember names. Couldn't memorize a credit card number without extreme effort. Can't remember why I walked into a room. etc.
Why is memory like this?
