For the majority of human evolution, yes. Even in modern day, some rural places in third world, it is not as frowned upon as in the west.
Technology and recent changes have sort of removed societal norms unconsciously and it appears women are going back to instincts without even being aware of it. Unfortunately the men they value don’t have resources or capability to support multiple women so they will end up single wondering what happened
