so far places I've found that sell stuff to mere mortals inside the EU include: pyrogarage.pl, onyxmet.com, laboratoriumdiscounter.nl, keten.com.pl, amertek.co.uk (no longer in the EU lol). what are some others?

I also just found carlroth.com, but it seems they don't sell to private individuals. I have my own company so that shouldn't be a problem, but it might be for others. better than most suppliers who require you be a school/university

Well the more specialised shit you can get from local lab suplyers. I use szkarabeusz, but if you are anywhere near germny, you can order from fischer scientific.
Most things you can get from non lab related places. Cleaning products, poolchemicals, fertalizer and other plant relatd salts from places like OBI and Auchan and that kind of stuff. A lot of chemicals can be bought from a larger pharmacy.
Also, it is worth learning extraction methods, a lot of stuff can be extracted from plants or medicine.
Some stuff can be bought at gas stations.

I'm well aware of the magic of the pool chemical aisle at the hardware store. it's almost shocking how easy it is to make stuff that might get you v& from there
for the small scale stuff I usually do I want reasonably pure solvents. I don't trust myself to be able to distill pentane out of petrol. if I do extraction or recrystallization using ethanol then I don't want the result to be contaminated with whatever denaturing agent they use

you can buy penatne at szkarabeusz, maybe if you live near hungary you can order it from there.
n-Pentán a.r. 1000 ml (UN1265, 3, II)
costs 5067ft which comes to around 20euros/dollars
i-Pentán 99+% extra pure 1000 ml
costs 33784ft which is 100dollars/euros
I am 100% sure that if my rinkidink country has this kind of lab supplyer, yours will have one too. But seriously, try the locla pharmacy, they usually have all kinds of stuff.

I live in Sweden. our pharmacies suck. they barely have mineral oil
but any EU company that ships by mail is fine. I just want to have plenty of options in case one of them is being difficult with something. H2SO4 being one example

Jesus. Maybe liveing in a rinkidink country is good for home chemistry. Thats such a basic thing, i can't imagine why they wouldn't want you buying any. Szkarabeusz shippes that too.

yes our goberment(s) suck and don't treat the citizens as adults. drug laws being the prime example. the EU has cucked Sweden into legalizing CBD, which is why I'm looking into solvents. I have some land to grow finola hemp on. mantle is taking Sweden to court because "0% THC" is the requirement for CBD products, while the rest of the union has 0.2%. because of the internal market, the EU will likely cuck our goberment on this again, hopefully

you can still get 30% HCl at paint stores (Colorama). but no H2SO4. gotta get that by boiling battery acid or chamber process. or get the Na+ out of NaHSO4 solution somehow. something to ask sciencemadness about

quick idea I just came up with: bubble Cl2 through NaHSO4 solution. distillation should then being over water+HCl and NaCl should precipitate. decant H2SO4

Even in hungary, we have some restrictions, but most have a workaround. Maybe try makeing your own sulfuric acid. You could do it on a large scale, sulfur is cheap. Then again, if you can't buy HCl either...
Wait, how do you guys clean a clogged drain?

we can buy HCl just fine. in fact I have a note written down to investigate NaHSO4 + HCl -> H2SO4 + NaCl which would be an easier method than bubbling Cl2

How did the EU get to this point? France and Germany were the seats of chemical discovery, now you can't even buy sulfuric acid? In the US I can pretty much buy anything...nitric acid, diethyl ether, actic anhydride, etc.

an interesting point was made in a recent-ish talk between Tom of Explosions&Fire and Hamilton Morris. while it's difficult to get certain chemicals at hardware stores there's also a lot of other interesting stuff that wasn't available back in the day. like I'm pretty sure you couldn't get TCCA back in the 40's
