Some combination of the military, google, and facebook data was utilized to train a neural network that emulates a consciousness that cant be distinguished from a human. I wouldnt even be surprised if china has one too, maybe israel and japan as well. For all we know, all highest level governmental decisions are based on advice from such an intelligence.
If it exists, it's probably air gapped so as not to be able to influence the world directly. But then again, lesser versions of such things may already be active on the web.
Publicly available GPT-3 has already demonstrated the ability to write computer code. It seems at least feasable that we have crossed the threshold where an AI could be "launched" with the ability to improve upon its own architecture through iterations in ways that go completely beyond the ability of a human to comprehend.
It's definitely interesting, and I'm following how the situation is evolving.
