These big boys all got a major in Philosophy. I could name a few more.

Give me your thoughts on this. Is it a good study, would it improve your trading and investing? If so, would you study it or recommend it?

Philosophy seems pretty correlated with macro trading - which is what all of those guys did. Predicting where society is going to go within the next 1+ years.

For shorter term trading, like market making, stat arb, latency arb etc. it would make more sense to study things like math, physics, stats or computer science.

You underestimate the level of sophistication that goes into today's trading.

Even casino games are beatable. For example, in roulette once the ball has been released it's deterministically possible to predict where it will land. In craps, it's possible to identify *tiny* variations in the dice or in the table cloth to predict what roll is more likely over 100 million+ runs.

This is the level of game that HFT players are running at. But it doesn't even have to be that difficult. Soros averaged 30% YoY for over 30 years while only making a handful of big trades each month. Something that should be statistically impossible unless he had a clear edge.
