The "Faustian spirit" then would be the want to form infernal deals (or deals that seem good to begin with, but are ultimately bad). Thus the subversion of that would be to not want to creat such deals. Which would mean that space colonisation is a good thing. Clearly that idea doesn't fit with the theme.
So in conclusion, it's made some pseud using words, phrases and references to things they don't understand.
