Consider the Ant. When put in front of a mirror, ants check themselves out and groom themselves. When marked with blue on their body, ants will groom the marked area and try to remove it.
When ants meet another ant with the blue mark on them, they become aggressive, probably because they believe this ant is from another species. Yet, they do not become aggressive when marked and placed in front of a mirror.
The fact that Ants can pass the mirror/self-awareness test shows that we are very, very far away from understanding how consciousness works.
More importantly, this proves that consciousness is 100% a PHYSICAL process. Humans are nowhere near as special as philosophers like to claim.
Consciousness is a physical process that we will figure out as our knowledge and technology gets better over the years.
