That said I do know that european white skin and asian white skin both evolved from a pigmentation gene "breaking". So there are two different mutations leading to light skin, both mutations of the same gene.
So, anyway, the genes for light skin are new. So it is implausible that an ancient human who was alive before the prominent light skin genes was light skinned.
