There is also the problem of getting a statistically significant result due to small sample sizes (since covid only kills a small percentage and has only infected a small percentage, you would probably need tens of thousands of people in order to see an effect (the smaller the effect you are trying to detect, the more you need as well))

If you look at the (limited) data there is clearly a large reduction in death (even though it was administered late) but there were so few people in the trial that it would be systematically blind to effects of decent size.
There was a 10% reduction in extended hospitalizations and 18% reduction in death.
Notice they don't list it on their website. I guess it wasn't the result they wanted.
Look at those error bars and tell me that trial could conclude anything short of a 100% super miracle cure.
