Civilisation makes humans weak and dumb, low child mortality causes high mutational load and stuff, the immune system becomes weaker too, so in future we will see more and more artificial medical augmentation, because humans will find it hard to survive in natural world, civilisation makes us weak but it also provides us comfort, so we pursue more tech to support it, but this whole thing won't last long as the IQ of population keeps on declining too, so a point will come where we will not be able to further advance tech, and support the ever demanding civilisation.
In fact this happens and has happened with wild plants, agricultural produce too, we have to fund more agricultural research to make sure that we are producing enough food, but for last 70 years the nutrition (vitamins, minerals etc) per gram in American crops like corn has only declined. This is affecting health of people, we start using more and more artificial augmentation (chemicals, certain farming methods, biological experiments etc) in the agricultural process for this very reason, this isn't different than stuff like monthly vaccinations, chip in the body etc. It's simple medical augmentation to manage the population in a bid to save the civilisation.
