If imaginary numbers aren't real, how come they can explain reality so well?
For example, if a EM wave hits a conductor, if you assume imaginary numbers aren't real then you get no transmitted wave, but if you do you actually get a wave that you can measure in the lab

i love them as 2 dimensional numbers a+jb that encodes both X and Y but lets agree it has nothing to do with sqrt(-1). it is just a shorthand for saying (a,b). and once you convert to pthe olar coordinates, it is also super convenient but still has nothing to do with sqrt(-1). it is just sqrt(a^2 + b^2) and atan2(b/a) which is the pythagorean. . very convenient. it but what does it have to do with sqrt(-1)??
