Wouldn't Gork getting split be a natural consequence of him being made up of the simulated physical stuff? What is this garbage? It sounds like they're trying to insert some "superntaural" (from the perspective of the simulation) consciousness into the system and then wonder why it breaks.

This is just Wigner's friend with Grok being the friend. In the "Copenhagen sense", there is no "the wavefunction". Instead, each observer is free to use their own wavefunction of the system being modeled. So Grok can use his wavefunction for his environment which he can "collapse" when he measures the environment but you're not obligated to "collapse" the wavefunction of Grok + Grok's environment which you're using whenever Grok measures his environment. In fact, you should only "collapse" the wavefunction of the system when you interact with it.
