As long as the scale of your system is large compared to the scale length of your pressure gradient you get a stable solution. For room temp air, H works out to be like 6-8 km or something
In theory you could build an experiment that could demonstrate this on a smaller scale, but I’ve done the math and even something like Xe or Rn cooled to just above boiling can only get H down to around 900-1000 m so you’d still need a stupid huge experimental apparatus.
