Is society vestigial?
Humans traditionally live in social groups for protection against predators and to facilitate hunting, neither of those are relevant in modern society. Once widespread full automation of all essential consumer goods has been achieved there is little tangible value in continuing to live in groups outside of fulfilling a biological urge that exists only because evolution cannot keep pace with technology.
