It's obvious that some time in the past during evolution the vitamin d receptors in the scalp mutated and made the follicles that get exposed to direct sunlight shrink when DHT is produced in the scalp.
What's interesting is how they get triggered to miniaturise at a certain point, it's not gradual from puberty when you start producing DHT in the bollox.

I mean the genes that get triggered to signal the follicles to shrink, something happened in the past, if you look at a guy with zero hair loss with a buzzcut in direct sunlight he looks like he has the typical MPB pattern. There's a link with vitamin D, getting your levels up is actually good to increase the density.
