>>13984401Lots of disasters had no reasonable expectations of negative outcomes based on the understanding of the technology at the time. We've come to learn that being arrogant, believing that we already know all that could go wrong, ends up exposing us for the "unknown unknowns". mRNA gene therapy is a huge ball of unknown unknowns.
From past experience we've learned that we need to spend time carefully testing and examining the results when working with new technology or other new areas of knowledge. Time and experience seem to be the only ways of dealing with the unknown unknowns. That's why we normally would start small and slowly build upwards, discovering those unknowns along the way.
Instead we had Trump, desperate to look like the hero, give the MBAs and egotists the green light to skip all of this and ignore the lessons we've learned about dealing with unknown unknowns. The rest of the political class was only too happy to jump on board for the ride as it enabled their own sets of goals.
Maybe there won't be too much in the of negative outcomes but this week's study in Nature showing that Moderna causes more heart issues for those under 40 (and AZ for women of all ages) than COVID19 itself points to there being unknown unknowns that we are discovering over time and with experience. "No one could have seen this problem ahead of time" is going to be a common refrain from now on as these unknowns become known.
