Okay atheists, what's the evolutionary advantage of ape faces turning into human faces?

Fiction has shown multiple times that apes can retain their forms and facial shapes while having intellects that parallel or even exceed humanity (Planet of the Apes, Gorilla Grodd, etc), so why the evolutionary change?
