It binds to trace amine associated receptor 1 which causes dopamine efflux by reversing/internalising/blocking dopamine transporters, it also displaces dopamine in storage vesicles for release by DAT. Methylphenidate and cocaine just block dopamine transporters and part of their tolerance mechanism is upregulating dopamine transporters wheras with amphetamine it downregulates receptors and dopamine transporters
