Scientifically speaking, why does suicide happen? Where does suicide come from? Like aren't we basically biologically programmed with a drive to survive? How are we capable of killing ourselves?

It's simple. The primitive part of your brain views your curresnt state as a burden upon those around you. Thus, it creates the drive to off oneself to save the tribe resources.

The realization that you are capable of both hurting, and killing yourself is probably as important to intelligence as being able to recognize yourself in a mirror.

We should really research animal self harm more, to try and build a basis for understanding on this.

Self surgery is a very interesting trait to consider from a natural selection standpoint.

Creatures that perform self surgery COULD extend their life and/or ability to mate.

However, creatures that attempt self surgery, and fuck up, will kill themselves.

Some Goldie Lock's middle ground on that may have contributed to intelligence.

Self surgery may have had a hand in leading to self awareness...

no, it's not. while allowing yourself to be butchered by modern science clearly isn't the answer, there is nothing rational about killing yourself in order to get a better life. by doing so, you are putting your eternal fate on the line by (wrongly) being 100% sure that (re-)incarnation must be a random roll-of-the-dice "game" where you might just randomly end up happy.
it's a really obscure world-view that you have there desu. you seem to strongly believe in reincarnation and at the same time in materialism, ignoring the possibility that your soul was given a specific body, conflict/crisis by a higher power in order to grow or prove itself - if the latter were the case (spoiler: it is), you would either be severely punished or have to go through the same test again until you have mastered it.
