Quantum Computing application in bioinformatics

I'm doing a PhD in bioinformatics and I'm fascinated by the quantitative approaches to solve biological problems. In particular I'm fascinated by the quantum computing resources currently available.
But, aside from the qiskit tutorials and handbook, I want to better understand the foundations of quantum mechanics.
Is quantum bioinformatics worth further studying, given the primitive state of art?
Also, suggest some books or resources. Is it better to start over with quantum mechanics or to grasp the concepts and focus on the algorithmic side?
