Vectors are equatable to movement along a numberline composed of units ranging from simple integers to complex units of measurement.
Tensors are equatable to units ranging from hyper-real to quaternion units of measurement.
Space or what we refer to as the cosmos is equatable to volume and that same volume is equatable to area.

I don't see what's so hard about the dictionary definition, it makes things way clearer to me.

This means that a scalar doesn't have to be a nice "single number" so to speak that we multiply vectors by, but it usually is since that's the field we chose. Similarly the elements of the vector space are vectors that can be scalar multiplied by elements of the field. That field is usually the real numbers. Similarly tensors are elements of a type of product (that essentially represents elements as being in all at once) of vector spaces.

Were all of those distinctions needed to communicate that a scalar, vector, and tensor are all elements of a field that interact in order of ascending levels of variability/manipulation? A vector is an integer number of scalars being manipulated on a lower level of distinction than vectors are being manipulated on a tensor level of distinction. All of these are increasingly distinct manipulations/operations of a set of real numbers/a field.

just read on the history of the terms
in a very short and truncated explanation. tensors, vectors and scalar can be thought of as the same in different dimensions but the real differentiator is the way they transform during operations.
scalars "scale", vectors add in a manner like cartesian coordinates etc
