(engineering) Physics student here, I have some free space in my schedule next spring and I'm thinking about taking a course in real analysis. Is it worth the effort? I'm not really interested in rigerous maths but my professors keep pushing this course.

Can you post the course number and what school?

Just go through a text like real analysis by Bartle before you take it. You may accidently take grad level analysis.

probably not, I'm planning on going to industry after my master's degree. I do plan on focusing on nuclear engineering for my master's tho.

You shouldn't need real analysis, and if you do then just study it on your own from a text like Bartle, don't let the course interfere with your GPA.
Fill in the gap with an elective or take a free space,, or use the free space to study it on your own,, and if you fo take it make sure to score a perfect A, getting an A in real analysis, a senior level real analysis course is a good show off.

But I seriously doubt you'll need it for a masters in nuclear, just study it for fun on your own, not even in basic graduate physics unless it's for mathematical physics research is real analysis needed, so I highly doubt it's needed for your degree.
Your professors probably just want you to take it to encourage your mettle, a gauntlet or sorts if you understand me, I would just buy real analysis by Bartle and go through that in 2 to 3 months time concentrated.

Late 20s engineer here. You will forget everything you don't use regularly. So take courses that you think will be relevant to you in the future.

just try it out. you can just drop it if it doesnt suit you.
personally, i am interested in theoretical physics and consider having a solid mathematical foundations important and useful. for instance, you cant properly understand QM without it.

As a physics major what you really need from analysis is basic complex variable, ie how to apply complex analysis such as taking complex integration techniques and functional analysis to understand mathematical physics foe PDES and quantum mechanics.

A good book for FA is functional analysis by Kreyszig
