I guess my part is computive too, just a bit different, I am not even a formal math student, just like to read about this stuff, i guess what i'm trying to do right now is collect all the ways PDEs can be solved(?), you see there is not and there cannot be a general formule for them, to the extent of certain fields only solve a SINGLE or a single class of equation only. So it's sort of depressing, but i get to learn about other stuff while doing it (algebra, probs, etc.) I always like dynamical systems innately, imagine something changing over time (and place) and you can just represent that in so many ways on a graph, vector fields, integral curves, phase space(where you compare a functin with its derivative). I am not a fan of applications but if it will have to come to that i guess you are right, although i'm slowly moving away from that part.
If it's not too much trouble could you sum up spectral sequences for a non-algebraist?
I know a little bit of homotopy theory but that's mostly it.
