Therein lies the problem. No one gets anything done if we all have to go through decades of reinforcement to understand what the fuck you're trying to say. The people who make your concepts easier to understand are the one's that push us from counting sticks to a formalized system of arithmetic. Explain your shit to a child instead of expecting the child to grasp the entirety of your experiences. Its admirable that you've made strides where you have, but knowing the secrets of the universe isn't going to help much if you don't have a way to use the secrets.

I can explain what I'm doing to a 5 year old and they'll understand it, but then they'll go "so what", which immediately tells me that the person is not interested in what I'm saying per se, but only the "applications", which is infuriating. Normies cannot appreciate things for their own nature, they always need to relate everything to money or some other boring shit. The only non-physics person who seemed genuinely engaged when I talked about physics was my hs crush.

I was feeling the same way after my post doc but now I have a comfy job with the DoD doing research in something tangentially related to my thesis.

Keep your head up and keep trying to get that next thing on your CV. Also look into federal contractors and ffrdcs. The jobs abound for the physicist who knows Matlab.
