I made a 70 line Python script which can solve any algebra problem related to mathematical finance in my first semester of math.
What does this mean? If you don't learn math and programming, you WILL get eaten up by who do know it, even if they don't have an accounting degree.
I would recommend you do something like Law instead. Maybe even Medicine.

70 line is obviously a useless descrition except for demonstrating the simplicity, and even expertise, of what you are doing by leveraging code. Calculators don't solve anything and it also doesn't solve the real problems, just solves some simplified mathematical models. You cant run a script like that on all of the data coming in on some market as it takes way too much overhead. Calculators can solve anything you plug into them too.

Finance doesnt require any real calculations beyond compound interest or "balance" systems of linear equations where all expenses match all income, worst thing would be maximizing a funtion subjected to some constraint, lagrange multipliers.
Its much more important to know about law to know how to setup and plan operations to minimize your taxes and to get all the juicy credits you can. That can be done easily in software.

Idk I think there's some strong survivorship bias when it comes to how we regard those literate scholars - like all the poochangs of those times simply didn't get their writings passed into history. But even if every literate monk was an Aquinas, I'd still be willing to consider that the intellectual distance between those monks and the average ploughman was similar to that which separates the modern poochang from a wagie who can't into YouTube python tutorials or whatever. And even if that wasn't the case I'd still argue that, on a practical level, the advantage a literate individual had in the middle ages is similar to the advantage that a barely competent programmer has today e.g. manually looking for apartment listings vs automating a daily search with the zillow api - or easily qualifying for jobs like OP's for that matter. But I'm just talking out my ass 2bh

In an era where everyone is literate, an illiterate person is basically working with a meagre fraction of the long-term memory capacity that the literate can recruit (by virtue of this "write it down so I won't forget it" idea). Similarly, in an era where everyone is able to write even basic software, someone who lacks that ability is stuck with their own meagre fraction of the computational capacity available to others (e.g. manually searching for apartments vs. writing software to do it)
