Government bodies are all regulatory captured and they don't have a profit motive to finance such a study if it will piss off their pharma overlords.
Pharma has no use for a study of a patent-expired drug.
Who would finance such a study?
Naysayers can simply say: there is no good RCTs for the *drug-of-choice*, ergo it does not meet the standards of the evidence-based medicine.
