Your computer/phone could not exist if imaginary numbers were actually fake, which is why they are now renamed complex numbers.
The complex number system is in essence its own dimension of numbers.
The easy way to understand is you imagine only 2 variables, x and y, and the typical cross shaped number graph you can make with those.
Complex numbers exist above that sheet of paper in the air in an additional dimensions.
The problem is of course you can also have a 3 dimensional graph with x,y,and z. But you have to comprehend that you cannot plot imaginary numbers on z. z is its own realm. They are different. Now the complex numbers exist outside of the 3D x,y,z cube, aka an additional spacial dimension.
Since the objects we interact with in our experience of reality are all 3 dimensions, then the complex number system (which as we already stated must be real as electrons cannot exist without them) requires a very real 4th spacial dimension to exist.
