Experts used to say that mercury is good for you, you should drink radium water, and that bad smells are why people get sick. Not being skeptical of science and stop asking questions just because an institution has a fancy name attached to it is whats really damaging. Good thing there’s a piss easy way to fix that which would be to start being actually truthful and investigative for once, but we all know that won’t happen. Too much grant and lobby money on the line.

It's both retarded and funny some people actually think this way in the first place. You're not actually supposed to do that. That's fundamentally the opposite of how science is supposed to work. It's not supposed to work like religion where you believe some guru just because he is charismatic and says things you like to hear. If what you're doing isn't easily veryfiable (at least in theory if you had a hardon collider, but raw data is also mostly OK if the methods are known) by furiously bashing some formulas and numbers into a calculator for a few minutes, then what you're doing is probably not science.
