We refill our natural gas storage during the summer months and then use them up during the winter months. The problem happened when our renewable energy sources failed to meet demand during the summer so we needed to burn natural gas for power and we didn't have enough time to refill our storage before winter. Because of this we had to scramble for natural gas; both pipeline gas from Russia that's currently building up its own storage tanks for the coming winter and for LNG tankers. China then started up their factories and pledged to move away from coal power so they started to import a lot of LNG from Qatar and the US, draining those supplies.
That's why we're paying a premium now for electricity; our renewable energy sources under performed so we had to use natural gas and now we have a hard time restocking supplies due to large demand globally.
