American society (in the larger metropolis' at least) has largely grown into an uncaring and cold society, especially when you throw in the recent events that we've all been through, I wouldn't be surprised if people were all around more uncaring than ever. Now whether its deliberate and engineered, that much I don't know, but I would wager that as result of this phenomena that its much easier to manage and influence Americans.
