My mom has been diagnosed with stage IV cancer. It began in the urinary tract and has metastasized to the liver. The doctor predicted she has 3-6 months left and probably closer to 3. She also recently had a fall and fractured hip. She’s still in recovering from that. I’ve already accepted her death- she has had dementia and Alzheimer’s for a while now so we already knew the end was coming, just weren’t expecting it this soon with a cancer diagnosis.
Anyways, my question is:
What is the nest way to reduce her suffering during the final months? Should we do home hospice or hospice in a facility? Will I have access to plenty of morphine as her home hospice caretaker? Or would a facility do a better job of pain management?
I already had a DNR order on file for her.
