You can approximate that with a exponential function with an odd power, has to be >0 to have x-->inf as y-->inf, and shrink the coefficient to flatten it.
A third way is a tangent function which naturally has a period of pi and approximates the same shape as your image....
Just get creative. The exact graph in your image though, looks like a piecewise function to me.
