That's a good thing anon. Before I proceed,I should preface this by saying I'm Indian. We don't have a grading curve system here, so we rely on percentages. 80 is typically the highest, and if I didn't get higher than 75 (again, really fucking hard), I would have to face the wrath of my parents. Now I'm in research, the perseverance is paying off.

The worst part is they follow me where ever i go. They say they bought the apartment, so they get to live in it, so I constantly have mom or dad around me. Dad usually is nicer, but he has to work in the office, whereas my mom is IRS so She can work anywhere.
She says she does so much, but all she does is watch cnn, during meetings. The IRS is just 2 hours of daily work and a fuck ton of meetings.
They won't let me drive a car, because I had a few accidents in my teens (backed into someone, someone attempted insurance fraud, hit someone who was parked in the middle of the road behind a blind corner), so I basically need them here anyway or I can't get groceries. I just want to be an adult, but no one except one proffessor trusts me to do that, and our research is going well.

I'm confused. You're in gradschool? Just get a shitty student apartment and don't give them the address. It's worth it for your sanity and development trust me. I moved out at 18 and everyone gave me shit because I was burning scholarship money to live in the same city as my parents. I still graduated debt free, did gradschool and moved in with my future wife. We would probably have 100k higher net worth today if we saved and lived with our parents. But I would probably not have developed the same drive to get into a good career and earn as much as I do now. To this day I still get consulting work on the side from extra hustles I did to pay the bills during my studies. My relationship with my parents improved in the long run as well.

It can be uncomfortable and stressful, but that's part of being an adult. There are few things more difficult than asking for money for the first time whether that's university positions or carving out a traineeship etc. I think a major problem with our generation is people who wait to finish their degree before they start making inroads into the job market, it doesn't work like that, your connections need to already be there before you graduate. And you need to be clearly worth money, not just collecting unpaid internships. Pay for your own apartment, don't take a cent from your parents or they will never respect you.
