Matter is condensed space. Once it reaches a certain density threshold, it starts pulling and stretching the rest of the space around it and becomes an electron, gluon, quark, or whatever you call the tiny little things. Dark matter is just highly condensed space that hasn't crossed the threshold and turned into matter yet.
