>>13922277It really depend on what you want to do, but for any serious research, you would probably need astronomical ammounts of money.
I work in a small lab doing my research, and even though it is a really basic and small lab, there is no way i could ever afford all that stuff.
Just the qPCR machine alone costs around 150000$. Several simple PCR machines, gel setup, a few vortexers, few centrifuges a really good pipette set, fridges, laminar flow hood...
Then there are the consumebales. 10ml of ABI master mix costs like 1000$. Molecular biology grade water, sterile plastic stuff, new primers fo every new project, dye, molecular marker...
Over all i think the lab i'm in cost around 300000$. And keep in mind, i'm a really junior researcher in a small central european country, working out of a uni lab.
Now for some simple, fun stuff, you can put together a decent home lab for a few 1000$, but that wont be good for anything other than fun.
