What is consciousness?

Everyone knows that teleporting is a suicide, you'll be assembled somewhere else. What gets me is that even if you were assembled from the same molecules in the same spots it would still be suicide right? Your matter is no different from any other matter so you would still be dead, even if clone is made of the same matter that got teleported.

So what is consciousness and how could you transport it without breaking it?
