Why don't animals also use photosynthesis? For example, a cheetah could have leaves on its back to absorb free sun energy while roaming the savanna in search of prey.

Photosynthesis doesn't provide nearly enough energy to make a dent in the energy demands of a cheetah, or any other animal for that matter, and the cost of maintaining it will outweigh all the benefits it will ever bring. Photosynthesis is only worth it for creatures that use only a very small amount of energy because they do not move.

Lots of animals harbour photosynthetic symbionts. Some get all or most of their energy needs from them. Others have evolved different ways of getting energy from photosynthesis. Like eating things.

Evolution is random. A lot of the time the answer to why didn't evolution do this, is just "that is not what happened".
Why did i eat pizza yesterday, insted of eating pasta? That is just what happened.
Also some animals do use photosynthesis through symbiosis, especially in nutrient poor niches.
Over all, eating is far more energy efficient than photosynthesis. Animals often need to maintain high body temperature, larger cell turnover etc..

Plants have an incomparably higher exposed surface to mass than us animals
Also we actually do have photosynthesis but just to produce vitamin d, so again think of the amount of vitamin d we produce and compare it with the amount of glucose we need to fulfill our energy needs, it's such a small amount that even if it did happen to come up through some mutation, an animal that'd adapted by just being slightly smaller would still have the advantage

They do, but not a noticeable amount. They don't generate enough to keep themselves warm in the winter though, which is why they leaf and hibernate. All biochemical reactions generate heat, it's just in mammals that heat is high enough that they can maintain it.
