>Most antidepressants hardly work over placebo, have long lasting side effects (your dick can stop working) and also just generally stop being effective after some time.On top of that there are many lifestyle changes which have no side effects and were as not, if not more effective in almost every case. Things such as exercise, proper sleep hygine, proper daytime lighting, proper diet, ect are all more effective than commonly prescribed anti depressants. Even a single dose of shrooms is more effective.
To answer your question "Are they as bad?"
They are probably the single worst option for treatment of depression and, if we look at thing logically, should only be used as a last resort in cases where lifestyle changes have no effect. That being said, most people are lazy and just want a pill to fix their problems, instead of actually improving themselves. And anti-depressants seem to be good at providing that, even if the effects are in most cases simply placebo.
