You can do the more intuitive Newtonian stuff but will likely hit a wall when dealing with stuff where knowledge of math beyond high school level math is needed.

Experimental or theoretical? Both require loads of math, but in different ways. If you suck at brute force computation and statistics, you probably can't do experiment. But if you suck at analysis and proofs, I would stay away from theory.
