Can anyone explain why we don't use solar thermal capture devices coupled with stirling engines?

No expensive materials to manufacture. Every house could have one on their roof to help lower energy bills. Solar panels eventually lose their power, but could this thing theoretically be maintained and run efficiently for a lifetime?
