Help me understand lasers.

How unsafe am I and how likely to go blind if my brother bought pic related, a 3W/450nm laser engraver and uses it on the same house as me?
I don't know if this thing has infrared and if it does, I am fucked right?
Someone on /g/ told me I'm going blind in 3 months.

What if it has infrared? Besides I'm in my room locked, peak darkness but there is this crack in the door and another similar to it but thinner with the hinges, can light from it or infrared blind me from that?

No, it can be a blue laser and infrared at the same time. I know for a fact that common green lasers are made by shining an infrared laser through a frequency-doubling crystal. 1100 nm becomes 550 nm. Unfortunately, the frequency doubler does not convert 100% of the light and some infrared leaks through unless it's blocked by an added infrared filter

So if you had an infrared laser at 900 nm you could frequency double it to 450 nm and it would be blue and leak some infrared at 900 nm.

Doesn’t matter. Light is a wave just like sound. If you can hear something in your brothers room then the sound waves are travelling from there to you. Light works the same way.

Photons will still float around there, darkness. Supercharged and released, thrle activation point is too close, it hits me waits around, I read that laser safety includes door of materials that can filter the wavelength. Fuck, it wasn't my fucukp and I'll go blind.
How long do I have? 3 months? It has been activated twice or thrice, I probably lost years of sight already.

I'm sure OP's Chinese engraver is a blue DPSS laser and definitely not the cheapest diode the manufacturer could find.

in the other thread he said that is he is literally on the other side of the house with a corridor separating the rooms. if the laser was powerful enough to blind him from there then it wouldn't be safe to use in a house and wouldn't be sold.

If regular light can get through those cracks then laser light, which is small and faster, will get though even more. It also outcompetes regular light, so it’s almost certain that when it’s turned on all the light coming through those cracks is laser light.
