Why can't you fill an airship with a mix of helium hydrogen and partial vacuum?

The problem with vacuum is that if puts way too much force on the airship. But couldn't you get substantial improvements with only low pressure helium or whatever?

And the problem with hydrogen is explosions but presumably a mix of helium and hydrogen would be safer?
