Maybe it has never happened before because:
A. Vaccines that have been administered to 90+% of populations, such as polio, aren't leaky.
B. Leaky vaccines such as the anual flu shot are only administerd to a fraction of the population, 20-30% or so (only old people and some kids take the flu shot).

The Covid vaccine is demonstrably leaky and has been administered to 70%+ of people in most Western countries (and with mandates fast approaching, this number will only grow). It's the most extensive medical experiment in human history.

If Marek's doesn't apply to Covid I needn't get vaccinated because Covid poses virtually no threat to me and will only get less lethal over time.
If Marek's is real my participation in the vaccination (although the rational choice in terms of survival chances) makes me complicit, given what I know, because I too would become a source of increased evolutionary pressure towards lethality.

There's a disease but there is no actively infectious virus causing it, as such vaccination will have no real effect on whether you get the specific disease or not other than the side effects of the vaccines themselves.

There's a big difference between refuting a Marek's scenario (saying it won't happen) and refuting whether or not vaccination is a good thing. He flat out says that Marek's could develop. Whether it's worth the risk is a matter of opinion.

They definitely weren't impossible otherwise. It's a clear case of a virus being above optimal virulence and killing faster than it can spread. Any virus can easily become less effective via mutations, that happens all the time. But paradoxically, making a less effective virus that is above optimal virulence brings it down closer to optimal virulence, meaning more hosts die in the long run.
