So it's reasonable to assume that, if everyone got Covid in the first wave, these types would have died off and there would be a significant reduction in mortality for later waves.
Especially since there was poor treatment and no vaxx at first. So we can't say for certain that reductions in mortality are due to the vaccine itself.
But I don't know that the data lines up here, since we've had more deaths in 2021 than in 2020.
It could be the whole "flattening the curve" meme actually working though, as reduced transmission from masks, etc. has caused the virus to spread at a slower rate, dragging these deaths out over the years.
But then we would expect a practically zero death rate right now, as all the at-risk groups have taken our 99% effective vaccine.
