Is there any knowledge about existence which is so terrifying, that humans are better off not exploring it and simply hiding it under a hat?

One example I can think of is proof of eternal recurrence. Living this exact life infinitely with no escape. Quadrillions of years pass in this, over and over and over, for infinity.
